J R R Tolkien The Return of The King THE LORD OF THE RINGS First Edition/First Impression I have pleasure in offering for auction this rare and desirable third part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, published in October 1955 by George Allen & Unwin. Book The book is bound in its original red cloth cover. The gilt titles remain fairly bright and spine slightly rolled. Some water damage to rear and edge of spine although boards are un-warped so I suspect fairly minor. Internally the book is clean throughout and with a neat previous owner’s inscription of first blank page. The copyright page states First published 1955 with no other printings mentioned. The map to the rear is attached and in as new condition. Page 49 has slipped text & ‘4’ as shown. Slight foxing to rear blank pages and fractional ink run. Dust Jacket The dust jacket is original to the book and is the matching first impression. There are some handling and water marks as shown and some small pieces missing on the spine top and bottom. Minor closed tears and usual faded spine. Unclipped stating 21s net as original price. So overall a rare book including the original jacket. Not a mint copy but an affordable one and a good way to start collecting that first edition Lord of Rings set. Please take a look at my other Tolkien and related items. Any overpaid postage will be refunded once dispatched.
