Sir Derek Jacobi and Farmer Giles

Subject: Sir Derek Jacobi and Farmer Giles
by Urulókë on 2008/8/24 21:20:37

I was listening more closely than usual to my copy of Sir Derek Jacobi's audio reading of Farmer Giles of Ham, and I noticed right at the beginning (in the space of two sentences) he says Giles with a hard G and then with a soft G. (First same "g" sound as "guilt", second "j" sound as "jump").

Does anyone else pronounce it with the hard "g" sound? I assume the "j" sound is the accepted pronunciation?
