Subject: Re: The Wonders of eBay by garm on 2012/4/7 3:19:00 FITS also claims this to be one of: "The extremely rare 3rd printing in which a large number were destroyed during bombing of London. " This is another error - according to Hammond (p.15-16) it was 423 copies in sheets of the _2nd_ printing which were destroyed in the warehouse of the binders Key and Whiting on 7th November 1940. The planned 3rd imp. was delayed till December 1941, when plates were cast. Printing did not take place till late 1942 but, due to delays in binding, the 1,500 copies of the A&U 3rd imp. did not appear in the shops till 1943. 3,000 copies were supplied in sheets to Foyles for their Children's Book Club - as it happens, my Foyles copy has a dust-wrapper, but my A&U copy does not - but as Trotter says, they all had 'em. |
