Yes, you are correct, not sure why I did that. By the way, the book arrived yesterday. The signature looks authentic to me. The ink appears old and faded like the page of the book it's signed on. Also, weren't American editions of the Lord of the Rings also sold in Europe? I realise there are many doubts about signed items on Ebay (and for good reason) but this signature matches very closely with another one I own with excellent prevenance from the original owner. This particular signature has an opening at the bottom of the J which can be seen on some example images of Tolkien's signature available on the Internet. Here are some images I took of the signature this morning.

If the former signature is a forgery it looks to have been done very well and a very long time ago. Looking forward to everyone's opinion and thanks for the advice and help offered in this forum.
