Subject: Need help identifying an edition of the Hobbit [US library rebinding] by jpollardbookseller on 2011/9/15 14:16:36 I need help in identifying an edition of the Hobbit- here are the details - First - The cover illustration is of A standing Hobbit - NOT a bowing hobbit Title page shows picture of Bowing Hobbit - This is correct for the first US Edition First Printing of this book Date on title page is 1938 - Correct date for first edition of this book Copyright page reads - copyright 1937 and 1938 by JRR Tolkein Chapter 7 is numbered Chapter 6 (book has 2 chapters numbered VI) - Correct for First US Edition First Printing of The Hobbit The book has the colored plates called for in the First US Edition , First Printing of the Hobbit The book is an ex library book and possibly a library edition of the Hobbit - IT has NO front and rear maps Has a stamp on the rear end sheet F.J.B. & Co July 1940 On the copyright page is the statement "Printed in the U.S.A.
