I believe it translates to "The History of Latin Christian Literature."

A friend of mine, fluent in French, told me that the book covers the writings of Christian men / authors who wrote in latin (as opposed for example to the Greek streak of Christian writings) so that the focus of the book as can be glimpsed by the open page you show will be on St. Jerome, St. Augustin, etc.

An original drawing by J.R.R. Tolkien is to be sold at auction by Tennants of Leyburn, North Yorkshire, on 13 April 2011. Drawn in pencil and coloured pencil, New Lodge, Stonyhurst depicts the garden of the guest house at which Tolkien stayed in Stonyhurst, Lancashire on three occasions. Tolkien made the drawing in August 1947 and gave it to the family who owned New Lodge. Currently a small reproduction may be seen on the auctioneer’s website, which lists the house estimate of the sale price as £15,000-20,000. The drawing is also reproduced, with better colour, in J.R.R. Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator, fig. 28.

We have no financial interest in this sale, and are posting information as a favour to the owner of the drawing, a friend who kindly allowed us to reproduce it in Artist and Illustrator sixteen years ago.

Hello to all -

Just posted the Calendar of the Month for April at:

www.tolkiencalendars.com

This one is special to me as I had the great opportunity to work with three very talented illustrators to create it. Hope you enjoy it. Happy Spring to all!

Away from The Green Hill Country,

Nice purchase and welcome to the forum. I know the signature is why you purchased the book, but what book is it?

Thanks Laurel!

I'm primarily a vintage comic collector but my love of Tolkien goes back just as far (I'm a college English teacher... wonder what influenced THAT choice!-). I have to admit that with the dozens of collectibles dealers I've worked with in the past, David has really impressed me with his overall approach over the course of this arrangement.

And again, just glad to be here to sit back and continue learning more about this field of collecting :)
