Great news, it's been a trial being without your site in working order. Many thanks.

TolkienBooks.net is back online after a long absence due to an attack by hackers.

An Illustrated Tolkien Bibliography, is back in action, as is most of the Articles Section, but some of the links are broken. These will be repaired shortly. The articles on print numbers for early Hobbits will also be back soon.

Apologies in advance for any broken links you may find. I will endeavour to sort them out as soon as possible.

Apologies also for taking so long to get it back into a more or less usable state. Various trials and tribulations have diverted me for the last 18 months. Hopefully they are all now sorted and I will be able to devote a good amount of time to developing the site again.

For that sort of condition, £58.00 doesn't sound outrageous to me.

BTW - this was my first set of LotR. I paid around £11.00 for my set in 1976. Bearing in mind my take-home pay at that time, it seemed a lot of money!

I'm with your wife on this one; personally I wouldn't buy a mis-bound copy; but that's just me.

On the other hand, I recently bought a one-volume de luxe Lee LotR, and was dismayed to find that it has a misprint - that is, a blank leaf where one of the illustrations ought to be. For a while i was torn between sending it back (tho' I didn't find the fault until some time after I bought it) and holding on to it because it was a very good price. The vendor hadn't mentioned it, and I don't suppose he knew anything about it. So, I still have the book. I'm hoping to catch up with Alan Lee again one day; and ask him to 'personalize' it, with an inscription on that page, or even a sketch - even if it's only a 'What! No Pic?' sort of 'Kilroy was Here' type picture.
