riiiight... the mental image of JRRT typing away in the 1040's in Skiatook, Oklahoma(!) is incongruous to unfathomable depths, and therefore hilarious - and though I appreciate the humor, I don't think I can laugh until I've finished passing the brainstone. THE @#$&%....?!?

and laugh, and laugh...

A link for the truly curious is below, but here is the relevant text. The auction is for a 1968 Skiatook, Oklahoma (USA) phone book.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien spent a majority of his time in Skiatook writing his second draft of The Lord Of The Rings, a fact paid tribute to by Skiatook's inclusion in the feature film The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King as portraying the city of Minas Tirith. Strangely, all footage shot on location was used only in the film's theatrical trailer, and never saw light in the final cut of the film, an Ontario-based city instead appearing. The original footage- with commentary by Tolkien- is available on the upcoming "One Ring Edition" of the DVD.

Can't wait to hear that commentary...

[>Rowns] I have successfully logged on using my own computer, despite previously not being able to register with it. Perhaps it might be easy enough in the short term for those having trouble registering, to try on another computer if they can; it only takes a few seconds anyway.

Seems a fine place to post it - welcome Khamul! Good to have you here.

And sorry for the registration problems, I still think it is a subtle bug on my side of things. All you other new users who can't log in, use the Contact Us link to let me know! The more reports, the faster I can fix this issue...

(Wasn't sure where this post could/should appropriately be placed.)

My first post; hopefully one of many. Have been keenly visiting (& reading) this site for a long while now. Couldn't get registered via my home computer though (AOL & Norton thwarted any attempts!). At last I've managed to register using another computer. Hopefully I'll be able to log-on at home!

Great site Rowns!

Cheers!
