Thank you for the information. I couldn't check the Companion & Guide, because it's in my student's apartment. But I'll checked when I'm there again.
There was a copy of the booklet on eBay, which I was following (and perhaps to buy), but it has sold today or yesterday. Did someone of you bought it? If so, can you give me quick review when you get it?

Aw, that's a shame. (kidding)

It's my favourite Folio edition, too. The topstain is a blood red, the head and tail bands are lovely; and the pattern on the front board is ingenious. They fit in the hand lovely, too.

But you Need a slipcase with them!

I think i remember looking this up whe I bought my copy and found that "Elephant Hide" is just a tough paper which doesn't scuff easily. Not made from real elephants.

I agree these are my favourite Folio editions of "The Lord of the Rings"

The books state they are bound in "Elephant Hide", anyone have any ideas what this means?

You might want to consider this: http://cgi.ebay.com/TOLKIEN-LORD-RING ... ction&hash=item483c30dc4d

I've always liked this Folio style, but this set does lack the slipcase. For the difference in price you might be able to find a slipcase (just happen to know of an extra one hanging around, but shipping is kind of prohibitive).
