Saw this and The Ruins of Osgiliath mentioned on some rare books sites. Quoted as being "compiled from the writings of J.R.R. TOLKIEN assembled and revised by author Alexander Lewis." Curious to know how much of these publications are Tolkien's actual works, and if so are they available in other publications, and if not what is meant by "revised".

You're definitely right about the 1st impression and I know that is much more collectible for the reasons you've explained.
It is my intention to buy also a 1st impression of this beautiful edition, but... now I just want a copy which matches the style of the 3rd and 4th impressions of LoTR and Silmarillion, that's all.
We can say that is a "look" question more than a "collectible" one
