Trotter: As I only have a limited space for books, I only have about 500 Tolkien Books, so I have had to go for quality rather than quantity, something that I'm sure that a lot of other board members have also done

Well, I go for quality (and beauty) too, rather than for quantity
I'd rather buy one nice expensive book, than several less beautiful cheaper ones.

khamul, thank you for the pictures - that is the same edition as I have, the only difference being that my copy does have a dj (a copy of the american edition). It is interesting to know that it is a "pirated" copy and you are correct - it is not cloth bound. Any idea of the value? I picked mine up for less than 10 pounds.

I have to admit to being disappointed with the size of the maps in the 50th Anniversary Edition and in particular the fold out map in the rear of the book as it is not the same as the original maps in the pre 1980's three volume books.

I would have liked to have the original sized bigger fold out maps in a Deluxe Edition.

I'd really like to see HarperCollins putting back the wonderful fold out large maps that were in the original books in any later printings of this book or any future Deluxe or Super Deluxe LOTR.
