Silmarillion - signed [GA&U employee copy]

I have recently brought a signed Silmarillion after many years of hunting.

Inside was a slip of paper dated Sept 1977 to sellers father who used to work for GA&U asking him to pay £2.48 for the signed copy.

From this it is safe to assume signed copies were sold to staff at the time.

Has anyone any idea how many of these were signed in this manner for publishers staff? .

Has anyone else got such a slip in there signed copies?

Thanks

Sorry, our mistake.

No need to apologise, I did not mean it that way, but that the letters are so terrible that they all look the same.

Hello to all -

Posted a WONDERFUL new Calendar of the Month at:

www.tolkiencalendars.com

This is a REALLY GOOD one and his contributions from regulars in these forums. (OK, now you know what it is. But another surprise awaits.)

Hope this finds all well.

The wording is the key to it
'inserted'

ie what the seller is trying to suggest is that the books werent signed yet the pictures were.

of course they were !!

With regards to the latest forgery:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Signed-J-R-R-Tolk ... t=Antiquarian_Collectible

These books were issued in 1978, some 5 years after Tolkien had passed away. Quite a miracle if he managed to sign them for beyond the grave.
