Deagol,

Thanks for that, extremely helpful as always.

Does anyone know the UK price that this impression (9th) was sold at?

I still have a few problems with the sticker.

Any UK bookshop at the time could not set the price, it was set by the publisher, so it should be on the book

Is this label and The Silmarillion labels you mentioned possibly for export or was another sticker also on the book?

The printed price was £1.75

I have seen similar blank A&U labels on copies of The Silmarillion.

I guess they are just blanking out the price to make copies similar to the unpriced History of Middle-earth books.

My copy of the Ninth Impression 1975 version of the book is not price clipped but has a big dark light blue A & U Sticker over the price.

Does anyone know what the price was under the label, if I hold it up to the light, it could be £1.45 and also any ideas about why the sticker does not have a new price on it?

Hi Dior,

Thanks for the response. I must have just timed my searches badly! Good to know that they have been seen in the wild, though, as I would quite like to get a copy.

Cheers
Stu

I have seen them (not all that often) on ebay, mostly ebay.co.uk.

Their price seems to vary greatly, like most of the HoME series but I have seen the odd one go for a low as a few pounds
