Wayne and Christina will be reading from The J. R. R. Tolkien Companion and Guide at a local event in North Adams, MA on October 11th.

The event is sponsored by Inkberry and Papyri Books. There will be a reading by Wayne and Christina, refreshments, and the entire event is free!

For those in the Massachusetts area, this seems like an excellent opportunity.

Hi Kelly,

I think you are talking about the set on this page http://tolkien.skwishmi.com/guide/pbset.html about half-way down:

Ballantine Reprint Edition, 1973-1974

In good contition, it can easily sell in the $20-50 range (really depending on condition.) It certainly is a collectible that US collectors enjoy picking up, but it is not especially scarce.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions.

Hello,

I am new to this forum. My mother gave me a 4 book set of J.R.R Tolkien books published in 1973. They are enclosed in a red boxed set labeled Tolkien.

The 4 books are
The hobbit
The fellowship of the ring
The two towers
The return of the king

They are published by Ballantine books.

My question is are the books worth anything, are they collectors items?

Thanks in advance,
Kelly

Oh, well done, Jeremy!

We have indeed been at Oxonmoot, where we acquired the Proceedings of the 2005 Conference at Aston University, and a few other bits and pieces.

If anyone is interested in that game, it would be Mike or Dave at:

You can contact them via their website.
