The 14th Impression was printed in the UK and has the endpaper maps printed in black and red.

The 15th Impresion was printed in the US and has the endpaper maps in black only. The text is pretty much identical because it was a photographic reproduction of the 14th Impression. There is a differnce on the last page of text though - see below.

There is a good article on American Hobbits at Wikipedia:

Early American editions of The Hobbit

Greetings, collectors!
I have found an early U.S. second edition copy of The Hobbit which conforms to 14th printings in all respects except that there is no frontispiece. It is still entirely likely that it is a 14th, but from what I understand, a 15th would have no frontispiece while 14ths reportedly do have one. If someone could give me an outline of any differences between the two impressions, just so I can ascertain for certain exactly what I've got here, I'd very much appreciate it!
If you have my email, please tag me... and/or respond here, or fill out the contact form on my website - Thank'ee.

Hi,

Does anyone have scans of the 'contents sheets' that were included in the shrinkwrap of some of the copies of Vol 1 and (I believe) all of the copies of Vol 2 of the Deluxe Editions of the History of Middle-Earth? I have the original sheet with my vol 3, but was curious as to what 'blurb' was included with the first two volumes...

Thanks if anyone can help!

Hi Jeremy -

Well, I had not realized that I was caught up in a "perfect storm" (between the calendar collectors and the fanzine fanatics). I should have when you wrote of your interest in the fanzine. it certainly generated more interest and a higher price than (by a factor of at least 11x compared to the average for) the many other fanzines that Farley has parted with.

I will make whatever information from the fanzine that you wish available to you (and any others that ask). I am merely a caretaker of Bernie Zuber's legacy. While I outbid others (perhaps selfishly because I fear - with great reason, I think - that I will not see this calendar ever again), I am not going to lock it away never to be seen or appreciated again.

Away from The Green Hill Country (with credits to Hildifons and Bernie),
