Hi Trotter,

a Deluxe bookplated book has shown up on eBay now - looks to be from the family that was in front of you in line. Here is a quote from their auction: "only the first 8 people managed to get deluxe with book plate as they were put into books by staff at waterstones by mistake once in they could not remove so they had to sell like that so i was verry lucky"

Any feel for how many deluxe copies got bookplates from when you were there? The above quote feels mostly like hyperbole to get a higher eBay price to me.

It would be beyond wonderful if Herr Boom (Fangorn) would create a profile for your site! He is the reason that I am where I am today. The old TCG forums was probably the first site I found when I began my quest several years. As I recall, I googled "Tolkien calendars" and up came a posting from him talking about the issues from the Tolkien societies, the Khandlendar, etc etc. I remember thinking "I'm in trouble. How will I ever find all of these?" I took a chance (knowing him as I now do, it was not a chance!) and wrote to him. He was very gracious and shared his knowledge with me. He is the reason that I do the same for collectors new to this. I'll see what I can do!

Original quote:
"We all want this first and foremost to enjoy life as a book," said Brawn. "No one's saying never to a film (but) the film rights are reserved by the estate. We want to see what reaction it gets and then let it run its course." -- David Brawn

UGO's wording made it sound a little more likely than reality :)

"HarperCollins' David Brawn, the publisher of Hurin, told the media that the movie rights are presently unavailable but that he imagines at some point a deal will be made with a studio. For the moment the Tolkien estate is content with letting the novel get out there and see what the response is from the fanbase before thoughts of a movie adaptation begin to happen."

The US Deluxe has been delayed till May 16 according to my Amazon notice, but the UK Deluxe I ordered is en route. I wonder what the delay was (distribution issue, or maybe it hasn't been printed yet).
