Thanks guys, that's ringing bells now - the facsimile Amazon refers to is just the dustjacket art from what I can remember, not the text. I'll dig through Beyond Bree and a few other sources for additional confirmation.

I updated the banner link, working again now.

I've gotten burned by the case sensitivity too - rowns.com file uploads are case sensitive, and the web interface automatically changes everything to lower case. That caused a few headaches until I switched to a great ftp client - Bulletproof FTP - that lets me schedule uploads, picks up broken transfers where they left off, remote file rights management, everything. The perfect tool for hosting my websites on remote servers.

I've had the same issue with eBay - I get dozens of emails a day from them (auto notifications for new listings of various types) and recently deleted many hundreds of them as out of date and unread. Just too busy with other things, recently.

Someone on the Mythopoeic Society mailing list asked this question and I thought someone here might be able to answer (I don't have a copy with me right now)

I have a question for the group about the hardcover "Hobbit: 70th Anniversary Edition" published by Harper Collins in August 2001 (available on both Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk) . The edition is described as

Facsimile First Ed. edition (320 pages)

Does anyone actually own this edition?

Is this really what it appears to be: a fascimile reproduction of the 1937 edition complete with the original text (including the original "Riddles
in the Dark" Chapter (ch.5) and the original black and white illustrations. Does it include any of the colour plates included in the first American
Edition.

I am puzzled by the reference to the "70th Anniversary" which won't occur until September of this year, unless it refers to the time when Tolkien is first supposed to have started composing "The Hobbit"?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi Dior,

the latest info I have on Douglas' Interview book is in the Events section here. October is the planned release date still.

Beren,

I agree with your non-objectivity assessment, and also agree in how useful the book is. I think part of the problem lies in the fact that Wayne and Christina had a lot of help from the family in putting these books together, and they have shown the tendency to drop relationships if they don't agree with something that was printed or said (As an example, Renee met and correpsonded with Christopher a few times and he was a member of the AHA, but when a fictional humor piece got printed in an issue of Rivendell Review that hit a little too close to home, Christopher permanently dropped all contact.)
