Hi all,

I have a basic chat platform now available on the site. It isn't fully integrated yet with all the bells and whistles that I am adding to it, but it is fully functional and completely browser based - no downloads or other software needed. It is also completely open to all visitors at this time (you don't need to be a member of the site to use it.)

Let me know if you like it (or not), what you would like to see added to it, etc.

I expect it to be pretty quiet in there initially. Still, give it a try! There is a link in the main menu in the upper left corner, or you can always go to http://chat.tolkienguide.com directly.

I also have loved this spirited discussion!

And I must say, when Beren said this

I should have checked chronology, but did not find it at first glance.

I had this mental picture of him wandering around his library, looking for the book amongst the shelves...

(Yes, I know what you were really saying Beren, but I still wanted to share. )

Wayne and Christina will be reading from The J. R. R. Tolkien Companion and Guide at a local event in North Adams, MA on October 11th.

The event is sponsored by Inkberry and Papyri Books. There will be a reading by Wayne and Christina, refreshments, and the entire event is free!

For those in the Massachusetts area, this seems like an excellent opportunity.

Hi Kelly,

I think you are talking about the set on this page http://tolkien.skwishmi.com/guide/pbset.html about half-way down:

Ballantine Reprint Edition, 1973-1974

In good contition, it can easily sell in the $20-50 range (really depending on condition.) It certainly is a collectible that US collectors enjoy picking up, but it is not especially scarce.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions.

Aw man,

you guys start talking about eBay signatures, so someone goes and whips out a forgery to sell a piece of junk:
