I had a copy of the US Silmarillion with review slip (it has since found another home, but I kept a photocopy of the review letter for research purposes.)

I have also seen a lot of review copies for the US HOME series. There are also a couple of first edition LOTR review copies floating around (in the Marquette collection, etc.) that are essentially galleys. I don't recall seeing a copy of the review letter with them, but I will go back and check what I have tucked away. I haven't seen anything for the Hobbit.

So, um, I guess it's vaguely Tolkien related...

Today's (June 6, 2008) Colbert Report episode had a Timbersports segment, where the two main contenders come from the USA and New Zealand respectively. After eating a kiwi fruit, the American contestant then did an axe throw into a Fellowship of the Ring DVD.

Take that, Peter.

I just ran across this news article saying that the Ukrainian edition of The Children of Húrin has just been released:

http://www.kyivpost.com/guide/general/29052/

My favorite quote in the article:

Kateryna Onyschuk from Lviv who translated the novel said that while working on Tolkien’s book she dreamt of elves and gnomes, helping her come up with the best translations.

The article also indicated that the book was published by "the small Ukrainian publishing house Astroliabia, organized in 2001 at Lviv University".

If you hadn't seen it already, Douglas Anderson passed word to Beren over at Tolkien Library that it has been delayed till about mid-July.
