Christie's auction page

Very nice handwritten letter to Pauline Baynes up for sale at Christie's. Dated 1949, talks about Farmer Giles proofs of her artwork, and the possibility of her illustrating the next big project he is working on ("a long romance in sequel to "The Hobbit" ").

Est. £3000 - £4000

Sale date is July 3, 2007 at the London, King Street auction house.

I have added an article to the database for Bloomsbury Auctions results over the past few years (going back to late 1998).

Bloomsbury Auctions article

I hope to add similar data pages for Bonhams, Christie's, Sotheby's and other auction houses as time permits.

Useful? Better way to organize the data? Let me know!

Ran across this while looking for proofs online... not affiliated with James Pepper in any way, just passing on the info.

The Silmarillion dummy copy

Author Name: TOLKIEN, J.R.R
Title: The Silmarillion
Publisher: London George Allen & Unwin 1977

This sample book prints the half-title, title pages, copyright page and the first 32 pages of the text followed by a couple of hundred blank pages to fill out the book. With a long blank folded sheet at the rear as a mockup for the map that would be in the finished book. Bound in blue cloth with the stamping and decoration the same as that of eventually used in the finished book. Fine copy in a fine proof state dust jacket.

Ah yes, I had forgotten that (though it has come up recently on the MythSoc discussion forum, so I should have remembered! Sleep deprivation most likely excuse.)

Any opinions?

I don't have enough CJRT signatures to compare against. Any public appearances by Christopher on 26 July 1987?
