That's interesting, I am sure that Foyles will have got into serious trouble with the Tolkien Estate for selling the book before the embargo.

I hope that the Tolkien Library is taking orders for books and delivering on Tuesday so they do not also get into trouble for breaking the embargo.

Foyles in London had copies of the Children of Hurin on sale yesterday and this morning, so I went over to pick up a copy.

They had obviously been told by Harper Collins to stop selling the books but they were still in store, so I bought a copy (£15.99 instead of £18.99, hopefully most bookshops will sell them with this reduction).

I have no intention of spoiling next Tuesday's launch for anybody so will not discuss anything in the book at all, except that in all the copies in Foyles (about 20), the first section of the book is bound upside down, so when your buy your copy make sure that this section is printed correctly.

All right, one impression the pictures are very good, Alan Lee has done a fantastic job once again and I am hoping that he has some of the prints available for sale.

In London, there is a huge choice of bookshops, but you may want to visit the following as they are all within walking distance of Piccadilly Cirus Tube Station.

I would suggest that you have a look at Hatchards in Piccadilly (http://www.hatchards.co.uk/), fairly small Tolkien selection but probably the largest number of 'signed' books by signed authors that you will ever see in one bookshop. There is a Waterstones about 100 yards up the road towards Piccadilly Circus, which has on the first floor quite a lage Tolkein selection, but Blackwells in Oxford is better.

For older books Charing Cross Road is definately worth a look, it has a lot of bookshops but make sure that you pay a visit to Cecil Court which is a sideroad and has some excellent bookshops specialising in rare books. They are refering to the single editions of the 50th Anniversary volumes whcih were printed in 2005 (http://www.tolkienbooks.net/html/lotr ... umes_-_2002-presen_15.htm). They refer to corrections from the Deluxe Edition in the forward to the books.

Lazzo,

I think we all appreciate your copy is a genuine signature, as their is good provenance as to where it was signed and that both Christopher and Alan signed it.

I was refereing to the other copy on Ebay which has no provenance listed, though looking at other signatures for Christopher Tolkien including the printed signature on the back of 'The Inklings', I now agree with Deagol that it looks a good signature.

It is interesting about the tolkien.co.uk website, Tolkien is still a very big seller for Harper Collins, it has puzzled me as to why it is so out of date and does not get updated and now I know.
