Today I walked in to Oxfam and picked up 2 ex library books, they were the Treason of Isengard and Sauron defeated both 1sts in the original format.
Sauron defeated is smaller in size and says on a sticker on the back cover "double cover library edition" does any body have any info on this? and what books are the scarcest. thanks

I've got two since i started this thread, after 18 months though, id say its rare(ish) but not scarce enough to be highly sought after, and I think there was only one impression.

Hi garm, its not as impressive as others on here but here is a photo.
My recent interest is in the 1991 Hardcover howe set and the 1992 hardcover illustrated set by Alan lee, I have them both and although I have two 1st edition sets, 1956-57 and 1965 the 1990s ones are my favorites. Attach file:  1007_4f0a4771a20b5.jpg (162.83 KB)

I'm baffled, my uncle kept it in his 1st edition silmarillion for years, its interesting as Tolkien died that year
