Agreed nice find and I think good price myself. Also missed the auction due to the fantastically informative auction title.

But did manage to buy one recently with the signed label (the one with "Published 15 September 1977" at the bottom of label).

Hi,

Just purchased a 1955 1st US Edition of "The Two Towers" (up to now did not have a copy with a DJ).

Anyway, I am just trying to confirm that the DJ is also a 1st Printing DJ.

Upon research I see mention of a "notch" in the letter "r" of "Towers" on the Title of the Dustjacket. However I am not sure what this "notch" should look like. Can anyone clarify?

I do see a little white triangular area cut in on the stem of the "r", but it is quite tiny. Could this be the "notch" or is it something else?

Any other unique issue points on the 1st Impression DJ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Hi Peeta,

Not necessarily. Some sellers state the Edition year but not the printing. Just because you see 1977 listed does not 100% mean that it is actually the 1977 1st Printing. It could also be the 1979 Re-Print.

If it is the 1977 First Printing you are interested in, I would e-mail the seller in advance to clarify that it is the 1977 Printing and not the 1979 Reprint.

When I was buying this edition myself some years ago, I found some listings that were advertised as the 1977 Editions (technically correct) were actually the 1979 Re-Prints of the 1977 Edition.

No harm to e-mail first and ask for a digital photo also.

Reprinted in 1979 in same binding as 1977 Edition.

Type page edges are dyed a lightish brown.

- Edit: Apologies "Type" should read "Top"
