I thought I'd better post before I do too much of this.

In the past I've occassionally ammended topic titles. Without exception this has been a square bracket addition, rather than an actual re-wording of the author's title; I haven't removed anything the original author wrote. The reason: looking back there are loads of generic "Lord of the Rings" and "Help please?" titled topics --& personally I find, looking at them, I have no idea what they're actually about. (Granted, there is the search function.)

I don't want to edit overkill, or destroy the natural look of the forum, but I've started adding clarification. Jeremy, does this look okay? Or, anyone else any strong views, for or against? [You can see the result over the first couple of pages of the book section, or the very last page (17).]

Just to say Trotter, I bought a copy of TB which also has the sticker --again 9th impression 1975 (DJ & book).

It's not half bad that TolkienBooks site!
Think the chap who runs it pops his head in here, once in a blue moon...

Well, altho' not stated anywhere on the site, HarperCollins are still willing to sell CoH with the 30% discount --as a new member here phoned & asked them; & they obliged. That's £245. I'd be very surprised, frankly, if they wouldn't apply this discount to S&G.

If this is the auction & seller you're referring to:-

J R R Tolkien The Peoples of Middle Earth Volume 12 - 1996 VERY RARE LOTR Hobbit

...then I think the seller is fairly reliable. Haven't dealt with them, but they seem to list Tolkien stuff honestly enough. However, that story sounds like piddle.

Your price estimate range is about right. I posted on current prices earlier this year. It's late tho', I can't be bothered finding it. I'll edit this tomorrow so you can read it. (Or, Trotter!?, edit this for me )

[This might be it, (but was posted three years ago) http://www.tolkienguide.com/modules/n ... ost_id=3373#forumpost3373 -Trotter]

Rubbish Trotter! This is it:-
