For the, um, discriminating collector (another word occurred to me but this is a G rated site) the holy grail of the US HOME firsts are the Book of Lost Tales I copies that were printed in the UK - the first four thousand sets of sheets were imported. The other sheets were printed in the USA. There are surprisingly few of these in good shape floating around, as it seems that a large number were used as review copies or library copies, just based on anecdotal evidence and copies I have personally seen or handled.

Can someone explain how you would tell the difference of those printed in the UK? i can't find any information about this. The copy i have says "set in 11 on 12 point Imprint by Bedford Typesetters Ltd and printed in Great Britain by Mackays of Chatham". thanks

Here's one, that probably the only difference from the one you posted laurel is the dustjacket, for an absolutely absurd price.

Since my return to the buying and selling scene I have noticed that there are quite a few 1/1 books out there with later impression jackets. I'm curious what this does to the collectibility of the book? It seems like the book would be worth the same as if it had no jacket at all. Anyone have an opinion? Thanks

Thanks khamul, that helps! Does anyone want to take on what the price sticker situation with Shaping and after is? i assume that some of it is just inflation so they took the old price off and put a higher price on via sticker, but...was there something else going on? thanks

Peeta, the stickers on BoLT I & BoLT II (& Shaping --but more complicated) are the priced copies; there are no jackets with printed prices --GA&U utilised stickers.
