My copy of the first edition seems to be a variant of "State 1" with pages 406-407 and 428-429 in reverse order... So "State 1" but with pages 428-429 in reverse instead of 427-428. No replacements or corrections have been made whatsoever.

Does anybody know where I can get the text of Christina Scull's article "Dragons from Andrew Lang's retelling of Sigurd to Tolkien's Chrysophylax" (published in Leaves from the Tree, 1991)? I would be very grateful!

At first sight I thought they were just regular Complete HoMe volumes without jackets, but - compared to the other books on display - their width is too small to make that theory work... Very curious.

Is HarperCollins planning to reissue the HoMe deluxe series in a single slipcase? Or does anybody know something about this HoMe edition?

The Murder of Tom Bombadil - Ian Hall

Tom Bomdrill had dealt with the joke all his life. "Tom Bombadil" he was called since grade school, after the name of the character in 'Lord of the Rings'.
Tom embraced the nick-name, even running his life round the strange stanza'd poem.
But forty years of marriage can change a man.
Even a normal man like Tom Bomdrill.
One August day, taking one barb too many from his wife, in a moment of passioned rage, he murders her.
For days he sat with the body in the bedroom, haunted by the sight of his dead wife, and the echoes of JRR Tolkein's poetry in his head.
Wrapped up in his own guilt, he does not see any of the strangeness around him.
He decides to walk to the local police station and report the crime, but the simple act does not go exactly to plan.....
When the police can't find a body, something is wrong with the world somehow.

Classic world literature...
