eBay Item #181890468346

A "custom" slipcase for The Silmarillion and BoLTs... that doesn't fit, being too tall. Strange.

I wonder if there is any edition that fits. I also wonder if one would want to use the slipcase, even if there was such an edition.

Another one from "Festival in the Shire"...

Er, what? This is just actively trying to rip people off, IMHO.

Ridiculous money for a commonly available set actually that isn't in particularly good condition (look at that edge wear). I think I paid $10 or so for a similar set that was completely unread and pretty much pristine. I've seen plenty of them for sale, including the odd shrink-wrapped set for sub-$20.

Madness.

- not true - The Hobbit had already been in print for a decade and a half by then.

Yeah, the article isn't the most accurate, but it is just a local paper piece.

My wife came across the following article:

http://www.malverngazette.co.uk/news/ ... &fb_action_types=og.likes

So I just found out that my wife knew George Sayer, as he lived a couple of doors down from her when she lived in Malvern. Apparently George was a lovely bloke.

So it turns out my wife almost has an indirect Tolkien connection (that said she also has a Peter Jackson connection as she had the parents of Richard Taylor as neighbours. I'll forgive her that one).
