Hello all
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/A-TOLKIEN-SIGNE ... tible?hash=item439c045ad6

Here is yet another signed items from the same ebay seller highlighted previously- yes in blue ink.

My good nature is still trying to keep an open mind on these letters. I now see the seller has very kindly taken a photo of the watermark - the previous letters did not have the watermark?
Is the date bit looking right?

Any thoughts from you experts, not that i am thinking of bidding- just curoius i guess but they do look ot be getting better!

Hello
A great story Findegil. I liked reading that more than the letter for sure.
I find it such a shame that items like this are around but guess thats what money does for you. I suspect all these letters come from the same source (Chris/Milford connection). No doubt more to follow. I asked question too, await answer with interest.

Hello All
I have just found a photo of the 'other' letter i was offered by the 'Higgins' letter seller to Hooper.

At first it looks ok and ties in well with letter 291 in Tolkiens letters. But i notice the D in Dear is in capital whereby i thought Tolkien used a lower case in such context. Also the writer writes as is Lewis is alive ?

Am i analysing too much ? Comments appreciated for guidance in future.

Thanks

Hello Collector
I am sceptical about these letters as the sellers story just didnt make sense. Ask yourself - why would Tolkien compose letters in Milford to a number of people and then leave them in the loft? Would you do that?

I have never heard of Allington Antiquarian Books but assume you have a connection?

I appreciate that there are experts in handwriting and indeed this is one way of establishing providence but more often than not i find gut instinct kicks in and when the story and facts dont add up then something is wrong.

To be honest i trust the guys who post on this site more than anyone.

I look forward to finding my sleeping book with a genuine tolkien signature in it. I guess my odds are fairly good as there seems to be a lot out there.

An interesting chat indeed.
