For more information about the relation between Morris and Tolkien, I would recommend you to have a look in The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide - there's an entry in Reader's Guide for William Morris (pp. 598-604).

Estimated price £80-100! That's absurdely low for a handwritten letter (if it's the same as the excerpt shown on Winterton's website). I would gladly have tried my luck on it, but it seems like you have to physically be there during the auction..?

Will anyone here be placing a bid?

A letter from Tolkien to a Mr. Hooton, written on 13 February 1963 has turned up on eBay. Appears to be a form letter?

In any case, each seller gets at least one thing wrong in the description: this sale has "Mr. Hotton", and an earlier sale called the writer of the letter "Tolkein"...
