Interesting blog post from Douglas A. Anderson, concerning a letter co-signed by J.R.R. Tolkien and published in The Times, 28 January 1949:

Just out of curiosity (since I don't have the older book) - did the publishers of the 1989 Oliphaunt: Beastly Verse receive permission to reprint the poem, or did it also fail to acknowledge Tolkien's copyright?

It was good to learn that Hooper cited from what was published as letter 300 - I can see that this letter was written in 1968 so it would indeed have been odd to find it in a 1939 book!
