Does anyone happen to have both Rehabilitations and Other Essays and Selected Literary Essays? Both appear to contain the essay "The Alliterative Metre", and I wonder if the essays are identical in both books.

(Was thinking of buying Rehabilitations and Other Essays just to check if it quotes from a Tolkien letter, but the cheapest copy goes for £200.00 at Amazon.co.uk!)

I just wanted to share a link to a website I created (with the help of Daniel Helen, UK) some months ago, the Tolkien Index (TI).

Tolkien Index is nothing more (or less) than a page index of names for publications by J.R.R. Tolkien lacking an index (with a focus on Parma Eldalamberon and Vinyar Tengwar).

Although there are some resources on the web which list elvish glosses found in PE and VT, the TI only includes proper names (or what can be thought of as a proper name), i.e., such as found in the HoMe Index (thus also "real-world" names are included). Also note that the TI does not provide any explanations of the names - it will only be of use to those owning the publications.

So far PE17, PE19 and a couple of issues of VT have been indexed.

Hopefully it could be useful to more people than myself! And please let me know if you can think of any improvements, or if you note any errors.

I have to move to the UK, won't find items like this in Swedish Charity Shops!

Thank you, Khamul - I'll place a bid on it later - won't go very high, though (gotta save some money for The Art of The Hobbit!)

Book arrived today!

As I'm one of the beginner collectors, I saw this as a great chance to secure a publication that I strongly believe will have a collection value in the future. (When the 1989 Oliphaunt: Beastly Verse was published, I was still in primary school.) Perhaps this is already being reflected in the evolution of the price: I bought it a week ago for £16.76 and the same bookseller now has it for £31.44. I should say, though, that it can be ordered for a much cheaper price from the publishers' own website, at least for the moment being.

Since the publishers, The Child's World, have chosen to show off the entire book on their website, it's perfectly open for anyone to form their own opinion of the illustrations or investigate the contents of the book.

Produced as a "School & Library Binding", the quality is top notch: sturdy covers, glossy finish (plastic film), alkaline paper (slows the degradation of paper quality). Indeed made to survive many a child's rough reading!
