On the subject of the layout (I'm going interior this time) of The Fall of Arthur, I have an issue with the Appendix (just got my copy of the UK standard edition today):

In the HoMe volumes, J.R.R. Tolkien's texts are always rendered in a larger font, in order to easily distinguish it from editorial comments. However, in the Appendix of FoA, I can't notice any such distinction -- J.R.R. Tolkien's lecture is printed with the same font size as Christopher's comments. Is it only I who find this a bit confusing?

Thanks, wellinghall, for checking that your standard edition also included the manuscript facsimile. (I'll then skip the deluxe, since I don't have any of the other HC deluxe editions, and I've purchased some other a-bit-more-expensive-than-normal Tolkien publications this month.)

That's one of the most weird comments I've seen in an auction description of a Tolkien book...

Great news, Wellinghall!

The official description of the deluxe edition says that it features:

"the first edition text and [...] a facsimile page of Tolkien’s original manuscript"

I'm a bit confused as to what "first edition text" here is referring to -- is it simply that this is the first edition of the book?

Is the "facsimile page" not reproduced in the standard edition of The Fall of Arthur?

I'm still trying to decide which edition to buy ... oops, perhaps I shouldn't say so here on the Collector's Guide...I meant: both, of course, and why not two trade editions and have one as reading copy

Hi Sara. Many thanks for your post and for your clarifications. I'm happy to learn that my suggestion about the newspaper article being a "construction" (based on the journalist's own fantasies) was correct.

Perhaps I should spare you some of the rash comments that people have posted, but the posts below were published in "open" forum. I urged people not to jump to any conclusions, but maybe you also want to offer a clarification yourself (otherwise I can post a link to your message at this website):

One of the reason why I've asked critical posters not to base their opinion of your work on the newspaper article, is that I myself experienced something similar about twenty years ago. A couple of close friends in my hometown suddenly become national news in Sweden and were harassed by tabloid newspaper journalists. When I read some of the articles, it was obvious to an "insider" like me that the texts consisted of 5% fact and 95% pure speculation.
