Had an inquiry concerning what might have become of the original artwork for the Ace Edition of the Lord of the Rings. He asks 'wonder whatever had happened to the Jack Gaughan illustrations on the covers of that edition' Were there every any posters or reproductions made?

Any help would be appreciated

Seasons Greetings!

A person has asked if I know what book he is looking for. Seems familiar but can not remember which one it might be. Any help would be appreciated. He asks: "When I was in primary school there was a Tolkien book which was a sort of guide to middle earth. It contained maps descriptions and recipes for things like elven honey cakes etc. I have not been able to find this book anywhere as I have very few details of the original. Can you advise if you know of any book like this?" Probably doesn't make any difference, but he is from Australia.

Thanks,

dunedain

Hello All,

Sorry to have been out of contact, it appears that Cox.com or Cox.net has had a server issue which shut down my dmiller@southwind account and another account as well. The info@TolkienBookshelf.com email seems to be fine, as it is off of a completely different server, which handles my web site. I am just now getting email from last Friday and have been informed that it may take days before all the email has been forwarded, and that only 55% of the accounts are receiving their email at all. So my apologies to all, absolutely nothing anyone can do about it at this point. If I have not answered your email, it is because I have not received it yet, and will answer as soon as possible.

Happy Holidays,

David

I received this enquiry thru my web site, and was unable to help this gentlemen. Here is his question,

"I kindly like to ask you about a book that I saw in the Bristol public library. Unfortunately nobody there could tell me the name of the book and I cannot go there and take a look on my own because I live in Switzerland. It is a kind of compilation of Art work of Tolkien editions (Lord of the rings and/or The Hobbit including covers of these books) from all over the world. I remember illustrations of the editions of Russia, Japan, Hungary, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, France, some Scandinavian countries etc. So it really showed a big variety of international illustrations of Tolkiens work. The format of the book was approximately around A 4 and a few centimeters thick. It was not an illustrated copy nor was it Art work by Tolkien himself (maybe it contains a few of his drawings though)."

Any help would be appreciated

David
