Here was a lucky find from ebay last Sunday night.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/230825756161? ... _trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

A nice set of early 1st Editions in very nice condition. Price was ok, but in looking thru the photo's I saw something quite interesting. As you can see in the photo of the dustjacket on the 5th impression Fellowship. No impressions noted on the dj. Just received it yesterday, and it turned out to be a true 1st impression dustjacket. So that dj will fit nicely on one of my extra 1st Fellowships that lacked a dustjacket.

Hello Laurel,

I've run across a couple of dustjackets for the 1st impression that were about 1/4" shorter in height. One had been trimmed by a library to put in one of the old style dustjacket protectors. The other one was a 2nd or 3rd impression copy that had the "?nd/rd Impression" scraped off, leaving a thin area that you could really only see when held up to the light. Hopefully that is not what you are looking at. Other than those I have never heard of one being an odd or smaller size.

Is anyone familiar with hardback (PermaBound) issues of the Ballantine Lord of the Rings. I had someone with a question about them and I have no info to give them. I always thought the PermaBound books were paperbacks that had been turned into hardbound books for library use. Any info would be appreciated.
