Like you I have some of the early paperback editions (unwin allen, ballantine, methuen, ace), but tend to focus on american and uk hardcovers. I imagine anyone being a completest would have to add an addition to their house to store all the different hardcover and softcover versions that have been produced.

I see the Hobbit edition in question listed at 300 euros. Just wondering how this was arrived at? I have a pirated Silmarillion similar to the one displayed by Khamul (though with a DJ). I have always wondered what it is worth as I didn't think these pirated volumes were of much value.

Is that the person who was on an episode of Pawn Stars UK? It was interesting to see all those editions in one place. I think the value the book expert on the show gave the collection was around 40K pounds.

I agree. Or even more annoying, all the references to "you shall not pass" - which is not even the correct phrase from the book. Gandalf tells the Balrog "You cannot pass!"
