Seems to me he's on the defensive about the money he's charging; while at the same time going on the attack against collectors who he perceives as not seeing things his way. Thus bracing everyone concerned in case the event folds perhaps?

Onto another issue:

Q. - "Why did you decide to do this Tolkien festival in Wales?

A. - "Wales is where it all started."

Rot! (as North Polar Bear might say). The reason why Mr Faith wants to hold his event in Wales is because that's where he happens to live! (he also owns a few acres with 'bunkhouses' for tourists).

If Mr Faith had settled in Scotland, then doubtless the area he lived in would then become 'the heart of Tolkien Country' (as he named Macynlleth, the event's original venue).

Let's have a look - yup, mine has. Hadn't noticed it before. I shouldn't let it worry you; it's not that bad.

Thanks for pointing out the letter, Trotter. This was a late addition to the vendor's listing; I didn't see it yesterday.

If this was in 1969, I wonder why an ordinary paperback would have been re-bound? However, as I can see no date on the letter (more of a memo) I don't think we can take these exagerrated claims at face value. This one seems typical of this vendor -

"Any others of these that exist are being CHERISHED by Tolkien's closest family members!"

Must be nice to be CHERISHED (!)

According to Scull & Hammond, Tolkien was at Bedford for a month in 1915. But I don't think that's the reason the street is named after him. Take a look at the map:

Tolkien Close
