Here's a link - http://cgi.ebay.com/Tolkien-Signed-Lo ... tible?hash=item2eaa65b49c

Apart from the obviously fake signature, it seems this might be a rarity - one of fifty copies of the standard 1961 edition of FotR in a readers Union wrapper. (see the Tolkien Illustrated Bibliography)

I saw that too. Delightful! I love the reindeer. But! - note that the lists are written in >gasp< - Blue Ink!!

Does this cast doubt on their validity?

I have one of those signed sheets, too. it's very nice - though in hindsight it might have been better if the seller had printed 'facsimile siganture' on the back. On the other hand; it could be said that it's obviously a copy, because of the 'feel' of the card.

I detect a note of doubt has crept into the discussions concerning the existence or otherwise of Dr. Higgins. Well? Does Dr. Higgins exist or not?

He exists as much as charlatanism and chicanery and trickery exist. Yes, Virginia - there is a Dr. Higgins.

And he's out there somewhere, just waitin' for another sucker!

Merry Xmas, one and all, and to all a Good Night.
