I see the original article has Tolkein's (sic) name wrong. Nothing changes, does it?

While we're waiting for Christina and Wayne, I wonder if I might venture a response? - Pictures is a collection of works which appeared in calendars published between 1973 and 1979, with a gap in 1975. There are one or two other pieces, which did not feature in the calendars.

There are no writings of Tolkien's; the text is limited to a foreword by Christopher, and comments by him on each picture. It's a nice book, but there are problems; the main one being that the colours are not as in the original paintings. Take for instance Conversation with Smaug. The colours are washed out; Smuag's front claw is completely wrong!

I haven't heardof the book myself, but I suppose it's an anthology of pieces by former pupils fo the Dragon School in Oxford. Christopher went there. Didn't know Emma Watson went there, though. Google Old Dragons; Wiki has something on it. I expect you'll find something on the Dragon School website, too.

Yes, Lewis's _Collected Letters_ contains only letters written by Lewis. There's one to Tolkien in Volume 2; the one where Lewis praises LotR - 'Uton herian holbytlas', etc. (Oct. 27, 1949). Another is to be found in Vol.3.

Reading Lewis's letters can never be said to be a waste; there's a lot of good stuff in there. And there's quite a few mentions of Tolkien throughout the three volumes. But I can't sift through the great mass to find snippets of what might be letters from T. to L. A better bet, for my money, is Scull and Hammond's two-volume 'JRR Tolkien: A Companion and Guide_ which has parts of many previously unpublished letters - from auction catalogues, for example - and also select extracts from Tolkien's diary. All in all - a must!
