I'm not sure if this counts as a lucky find but my wife was clearing out some old boxes and found these -

I remember buying them when a teenager at the same time I bought my first Silmarillion (1977, so I was 16). I even have the original envelopes that came with the cards. I thought they were long gone, lost when we moved house, so I was thrilled when she dug them from the bottom of a box and showed them to me. Now if she can only find my 1978 Silmarillion Calendar that I would have thought was lost at the same time!

Khamul - If you know where I can get one far cheaper, please let me know. There is only one listed on Abebooks at the moment and as I said, I stopped bidding when the price passed that one. There was a cheap one listed a few months ago which sold within minutes of being listed. I tried to buy it but the seller had to email me to say that it had already sold and the impression I got was that I was not the only one who had unsuccessfully tried to buy it.

On another topic, am I the only one who is currently being redirected to blogs.fantasygifts.com when I try to get on the tolkienbooks.net site?

I bid on this but quit when it went above the price of one on Abebooks. If it was shill bidding I would probably have been offered it as a 'second chance' and I haven't (yet).

I recently won a copy on ebay for £235 plus postage. I don't think I would have paid this much. Maybe they needed to complete a set.
Recently there were both a Hobbit and an LOTR from this edition up for auction but the seller wouldn't post to Australia so he ended up selling the Hobbit for a lot less than I would have paid. Also, sets of all 5 books seem to sell for much higher prices than individual copies, presumably this has something to do with having matching numbers, something that's never worried me.
