Thanks trotter.
I believe it was the US 15th printing (second edition still) where HM started using their own (bigger sheets).

Thanks. I knew that he did the artwork, I was just curious if it had a name similar the "wilderland map" for example. >If you are interested in seeing how he did it, then look at Findegil's definitive reference book on the subject "The Art of the Hobbit", and if you don't already have a copy, then you should remedy this as soon as possible. I bought a copy as soon as it came out but I have not had a chance to read it yet. I will make a point of doing so in the very near future. >I had the pleasure of looking at the original final copy of the dust-wrapper from the Professor last month and it is fantastic, made my day Jealous! Thank you for the response.

First my question:
What is the name of the standard artwork on the hobbit cover? This one: ![]() Now my favor. Im working to try and flesh out the publishing history of later printings of the Hobbit from Houghton Mifflin and I have some gaps in the information I could find. If you have any of the following printings of the Houghton Mifflin hardcover hobbit: 36 40 41 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 Could you please report here on: - Stated Price - Color of boards - Color of printing on boards - Brief description of text on inside front flap - Brief description of text on inside back flap - Most recent copyright date on copyright page - Does the copyright page reference any UK editions? - What is the full numberline (if any) - If you bought it new, do you remember what year it was? - Are there any owner inscribed dates written in the book? This would be extremely helpful to me. Any pictures would be great. When Im done I'll report back here with a summary of my data. Thanks in advance for any help.

Does anyone know if there is any information out there for the various Houghton Mifflin Company 3rd edition Hobbit printings?
For example I have a copy that is a stated 34th printing and priced $6.95. Does anyone know how I can find the print year? Im curious about the history of the 3rd edition printings. Thanks.
