Did Santa bring us all something last week? I was clearly very nice, because this is what I found in my stocking ...

Very nice! I wasn't aware that was released yet, is it available for purchase somewhere online? (For those unaware, this is Richard Sturch's Latin translation of the Fellowship of the Ring).

My wife got me a very nice piece of elvish calligraphy and an edition of Beowulf I didn't have yet. Plus an afternoon free to go see BoFA in the theater (actually the only of the three Hobbit movies I went to the theater to see...)

Jeremy

It isn't available for purchase, unfortunately. HarperCollins wouldn't let it be published properly, so there was just a print run of 30, which Richard (my father in law) can give (but not sell) to family and friends.

I think I'm one of Richard's friends...
...can I have one?

He's a popular guy ...

Such a shame for that amount of effort to be limited to a print-run of 30. Hopefully the challenge of the translation was reward-enough.

It is indeed a shame, but the work has given him an interesting challenge - and done the same for his brother, who checked the translation.

Not quite as rare as a Latin "Fellowship" (!), but my Christmas gift was a '67 Hobbit (which is the least common year post-1958 that I've seen sold over the last 6 months). I expect lots of them will turn up now!

Very nice, Stu; and your presents also sound great, Jeremy.
