Wonder what the story is with the Easton Press Edition of the Children of Hurin. Have seen 3 sell for over $500 recently, one for $660

It has always been a bit tricky to get the CoH for some reason (as is the Easton S&G). It has so far only had one printing, and presumably that was relatively small. I picked up both from the same seller in 2012 for approx. $130 each , but I was quite lucky, I think, based on what they seem to often sell for.
The really hard to find one is the Easton "Tales from the Perilous Realm". That almost never comes up for sale.
Of course, with the Easton Press, they might get reprinted at any time (when they feel demand justifies it), so it is daft to spend too much. A lot of the K.W. Fonstad "Atlas of Middle-Earth" copies out there claiming to be "First Print" aren't, as it was reprinted last year. I doubt there is any way of telling the difference between the first and second prints, mind (although I haven't had one of each in my hands to compare).
Always a good idea to leave £2 in pencil written on a book you are trying to sell for nearly £70

Notwithstanding that CT does have a couple of different distinct (but consistent) styles of signatures that he uses, I don't know anyone that can't remember how to sign their own name, and forms the characters and links between characters differently each time they try.
How anyone can think it is OK to sell something like this (with the usual "?" disclaimer about the signature is beyond me). It seems to be standard practice for people to list forgeries and just indemnify themselves by sticking a few question marks in the listing.
Signed by who?
I have no idea

I have referred this to the Tolkien Estate, sadly Alan Formhal's very rubbish fake signatures are better than this junk.

Not sure why anyone would want a copy of The Hobbit signed by random (in this context) other people...
