If you put it in the right order:
1) foul play by bidding yourself with some fake accounts
2) attract some bidders (without knowledge of what they are buying) who just bid because there are some bids already (must be interesting!)
3) bidders getting carried away in the bidding war (must have it!)
and then repeat this 1 or 2 times to make the outcome of any auction look fantastic!

"A FEW WORDS ON TOLKIEN COLLECTIBILITY...
I have been collecting Tolkien books for over 30 years and it really galls me to find people selling items for ridiculous prices claiming they are "rare" or "highly collectible"; and what's worse is, naive people are paying it~!"

I bought a "buy it now" item off this particular seller at an excellent price. It was so good in fact, he refunded the money and refused to honour the transaction, saying "it was a mistake". I guess he never heard of taking responsibility for his.
Again, am I missing something? I know it's a nice set, but £600+?

Interesting. The winning bidder was p**w, and immediately afterwards powell2317 put this similar set up for bid.
I wonder what it will go for?

Red, not the same set though, I don't think; latter listed set has slightly more sun-damaged RK dj spine, and mark to TT dj spine. They probably just listed it after seeing that other price! I'd be amazed if it went for more...

What do you all think of this one? Very strange to me to see a 'flat signed' CoH out there. Signature looks almost good, but pretty dodgy, if you ask me. It's a bit too loopy for me to believe it is Christopher Tolkien's hand.

Yeh, I didn't think the signature was very smart either. And, a US CoH flatsigned? --I don't think so. Auction is very short, but, again, not very highly priced I don't suppose. I've queried: no reply.

Are you sure?
But how?
Still a bargain to be had, if you fancy the story. Less than an hour to go...

Good morning. Flatsigned. No bookplate.

But how?
GHi. As far as i'm aware it was sent to Chris Tolkein to be signed on behalf of a small library in East Texas.
