I'm not keen on rebindings, personally - they have to be very good to get my interest. I don't like the look of this one - clumsy. And a 2nd ed. reprint? Nothing to get excited about.

I'm not keen on rebindings normally either but i thought this one looked a bit different and interesting. This being said i agree for a 59 reprint and the price its a no no

What is it with eBay auctions?

This 2007 Silmarillion has a few days to run, & bidding is currently running at £50 (6 bids):

The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien (Hardback, 2007)

Because of eBay's clever ISBN matching features, it also helpfully (although mostly annoyingly) suggests other auctions for the same item. At the bottom of the screen it suggests the following auction:

The Silmarillion, J. R. R. Tolkien 9780007264896 Book

The same book; £34.79; free postage; & you can buy that book (which is also new) now...

Why would the bidders on the first item not have noticed this?

I think two reasons--some people just get caught up in the bidding on eBay and some people are simply not informed buyers.
