Not sure I'd even pay £30 for it...

Looks pretty grotty for 30 quid...
You know, we laugh at the funny Buy-it-now auctions; but they're only funny because sellers are asking for such high prices. They undoubtedly don't actually sell...
But when open auctions climb to £100+ for ten-a-penny book club editions --then you really do have to wonder...
J R R Tolkien - The Silmarillion - Vintage Retro Edition - Fine Scarce

£102 for the last item, madness.
Would any one here ever consider this item for $225 USD?

"Third edition fifth printing (19th impression overall) of J R R Tolkien's The Hobbit published by Allen & Unwin in 1970; hardcover with very good replica dust jacket, not price clipped (shows £1.75) in a book that itself is bright, square, and in very good condition. A good read and a great writer."
I can not think why you would want a replica dust-jacket on a 1970's Hobbit, as you can get them with original dust-jackets.
This copy should also not have a £1.75 on the dust-jacket, my current thinking is that £1.75 copies were probably 1972 copies. This copy should probably be priced as 25s/£1.25.

Late Hobbits like this seem to be going for silly money at the moment. I expect they will all be back to a tenner in a few years when the buyers all realise that there are literally millions of copies floating about. Right now we have a wealth transfer out of the mitts of the stupid going on.

Here is another absurd price, even later date: https://affiliates.abebooks.com/c/9724 ... 2526x%253D101%2526y%253D6
Sorry about meddling with that previous post Jlong --I was just seeing if I could throw up an image of the item. It's a little large, but compressed it was tiny. Crazy prices though. You could literally have picked up dozens of 1970's impressions a few years back for pennies --& look at the prices now!
