So what are the rectangular white bits with the words on called?

I've always assumed they are known as "Book Information-Transport Substrate", but maybe there is a more common term?

I would have thought the "rectangular white bits with the words" on should have got a mention, though some people here collect Silmarillion's without the words.

Hey, buying a blank Silmarillion gives me a chance to write a version with a happy ending! All it needs is one or two little plot tweaks ...
