Seriously? I don't think either of these prices are very good. Given, these are pretty hard to get hold of; but £1000+ is pretty steep. (And not very good if you already have one or two volumes.)
In November/December (2012) five decent copies came up on eBay (--all of these were in the Fine/new category):
November
Vol. III £129
December
Vol. II £183 (shrinkwrapped)
Vol. I £286/$464
Vol. II £135/$218
Vol. III £101/$163
And in January:
Vol. II £117
The highest combination for vol. I, II, & III from above equals £598; the highest for vol. II & III equals £312. So... those auctions look pretty high to me. Add 'em up!

The seller had it up for £400 (although under reserve), with Buy-it-now option at £600. He then listed the same copy (while the other auction was still open & running) at £200, with But-it-now option at £300. Clearly someone thought that was pretty good for a set still in shrinkwrap. Grandfather worked at GA&U apparently.

This is quite an attractive price (if you missed this edition), provided the seller understands that only the first five hundred (?) were signed, & is sure this is one of them.
J.R.R Tolkien Tales From The Perilous Realm

Was Buy-it-now £40, but it looks like this was amended yesterday to £25.

This de luxe collector’s edition includes the first edition text and features an exclusive colour frontispiece illustration on a fold-out sheet. The book is quarterbound, with a specially commissioned motif stamped in three foils on the front board, and is presented in a matching slipcase. SIGNED BY ALAN LEE.Looks cut & pasted; so might be prudent to ask...
