What are 1st/1sts of Farmer Giles typically worth?

not guilty- I was watching but my copy fairly good so not going to bid on it.
Think they go for £120-£150 ish so if bidding got to £60-£70 you would think some one placed a 'good' offer to get it withdrawn ?

Speaking about Farmer Giles:

I've recently been quick on ordering some books having turned up as buy-now (not on eBay, though), and I've been quite unlucky so far. In most cases, I should probably have written an email to ask for a clarification -- the sellers haven't included much information and there has been no image.

For example, last week I bought an item listed as "Farmer Giles of Ham, 1st ed., 1957" (thus 2nd impr.) Price: €16, so quite cheap. However, it arrived today without dustjacket Not very collectible nor desirable!

LOL
Yes in the past i have gone for some 'fantastic' offers only to be seriously let down when they arrive.
My pledge now is only buy if absolutely sure and work on basis if cheap cheap there is something wrong.

Yep, I'm starting to think I need to reconsider my strategy! But maybe one day some ignorant seller is offering that truly lucky find, disguised behind a bad description...

Yep and you can find them - i have in past. Problem is you end up with a garage load of rubbish to find that sparkling gem
Keep hunting though cos the fun is in the hunt!

Okay, who snapped up this little number? I note nobody posted it here while the auction was running!

eBay item 87549432 (Signed)

I have to admit I was quite surprised at the price. £181 is a little higher than I expected. But, not to worry, since I have two already --& one cost £5...

Quite expensive but the last one sold for £400+ albeit now back for sale and not selling!

I see someone tried a cheeky offer ! I like the very important question re faded spine - o and by the way nice signature. U never know indeed !

Q: Any fading to the red lettering ("Silmarillion") on jacket spine? Aside from this, would you listen to offers? (£50?) Yours, Brian 18-May-12
A: Hi Thanks for your interest. This book is in absolutely pristine condition and there is no fading to the lettering on the jacket. I am selling it for a friend who is not ebay-wise & am instructed to let the auction run its course. Thanks for the offer, keep your eye on it, you never know..... cheers.
