I'm kind of hoping Amazon.co.uk list it, accidentally, for a silly price, & I can order a big pile, like I did with CoH; where I bought five deluxe copies for 80p!

I am suitably impressed (with you, that is, not with Amazon!)

Aye, don't know if you recall the story; I'll tell you anyway...

LotRs in the 2004 (> present day) deluxe incarnation was RRP £100, although heavily discounted by Amazon to £60. H was RRP £60 I think. Anyway, clearly they weren't sure about CoH & flirted with £80 as a price tag. Amazon accidentally listed it at £0.80 though. I ordered five copies, for no other reason than I thought the order would be cancelled. It wasn't listed at that price for long. Anyway, it was eventually listed properly & I ordered a deluxe & a normal trade edition. But the old order remained. And, despite it being a pre-order (& therefore I hadn't paid for it; no contract as such), Amazon fulfilled the order. Think I even emailed them to ask what they'd do if I didn't cancel it. But it shipped for £4 plus £5 postage. Wonder what they'd have done if the order had been for 50 copies... (Pieter, if I recall, ordered a few at this price too.)

I was the one with the 50 + stock indeed! Was crazy not to try... and indeed did work out nicely. Have had that luck several times... am always eager to follow all changes in Amazon to pick up the cheap pre-orders!

Might have known!
(I didn't sell any of mine though.)

On a side note, speaking about pre-ordering from Amazon -- does pre-ordering in theory increase the chance of getting a first print (where applicable)? I'm thinking about the case with the pocket edition of The Hobbit, where people had to order through Canadian Amazon to get a first printing.

I was wondering along the same lines as Morgan. My main thought was whether Amazon.com would be selling HM copies and Amazon.co.uk would sell HC copies. I was wanting a 1/1 deluxe HC, since most of Tolkien's work was originally published in the UK I tend to prefer HC printings...

Would Amazon understand what you were talking about if you emailed them??!

In "Product Details" (on Amazon.com) it clearly states that the publisher (of the edition they're claiming to be allowing you to pre-order) is HarperCollins --so they'll send you the HarperCollins edition.

In regard to impression: the recent H was an unusual case; normally you'd get the first impression.

Thanks khamul, I'm not very familiar with Amazon so that really helps. By the way, what are you referring to with the recent H? Thanks
