Have HarperCollins genuinely split The Hobbit into two books?

The Hobbit (part 1 and 2) by J. R. R. Tolkien (Paperback, 2012)

Do you think this was in anticipation of the Jackson films being split, originally, into two films?

It was in anticipation if having a shortage of pointless different editions of the Hobbit on sale at the same time. Presumably they will split it into a chapter per volume next time...
