I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share (or better yet, trade) either of these recordings with me. I've seen the 1987 Inglis cassette recording of The Hobbit (London: Chanticleer 1987 / Australian Broadcasting Corporation 1987) for sale but always at higher prices than I am willing to afford. And I have heard about 5 or so minutes of Christopher Tolkien's pronunciation aid for the BBC but am eager to hear the rest!

Thanks as always!!

Can anyone tell me please if the audio from the cassette tape 'Pronunciation for The Lord of the Rings' that Christopher Tolkien made in 1980 was ever made available. Or was the cassette never shared? Has anyone heard the entire recording? I'm wondering how long it is. Thanks!

I ended up buying the 1987 Inglis adaptation of The Hobbit... just couldn't resist.

You may be interested in the Church House Archive recording mentioned in this post...

Unfortunately only ten copies were made available.

Its been a while since I listened to it, so I don't recall how much material made it onto the recording (not everything).

Thanks very much for your response Jeremy. Actually I've been in contact with Nigel, who has been exceptionally helpful and kind, which is what prompted my questioning on the CJRT tape. The Church House recording contains about 5 minutes of the tape.

I had a suspicion that was the 5 minutes you were talking about (that's what triggered my memory to go digging for the reference). Nigel is really a nice person, glad he was able to help you out!
