Discussion on Book Bindings and Paper Types

I really prefer Smyth sewn bindings (see http://www.bookfactory.com/Smyth-sewn-books.html for example and description). So much better than glued bindings which seem the norm for many books nowadays...

For paper, I think I speak for many if not all here, that the glossy paper so in vogue (mostly on the China import editions) is horrible to hold and read. I personally much prefer very thick, high quality uncoated paper. I'm not an "India paper" or "bible paper" fan either. Smyth sewn binding is what the Easton Press books have - but the design is not very nice.

What type of binding do the HarperCollins Deluxe have? It seems they have sewn binding with some glue as well.

It does seem that the combination of durability + design make the current HC Deluxe the best deal...
