I am seeing in multiple references (online, and in print dating back to the 60s) that Tolkien was a(n honorary) member of the Icelandic Literary Society, Hid Íslenska Bokmennta-Felag. I don't see any mention of this in the Reader's Guide or Chronology, Carpenter's Biography, or a few other sources I checked. Anyone have additional information?

Ah, 11 June 1933 entry of the Chronology is where it is called out. Missed it before!

And it was an Honorary membership.
